How do I choose my email name?
The ePostman's has guides for choosing personal email names
or advice on choosing a name for your business?

Can I choose any email name at all?
Your email name is in the form firstname@domainname.co.uk
The .co.uk part can be chosen from .co.uk   .org.uk   .com  .org  .net
The domainname part must be registered with the internet naming authorities. More than 100,000 domains are registered every month. The ePostman uses specialist search software to help you find an available name.

What first names can I have?

You can have any name made up of letters, - (dash) , _ (underline) or . (dot)

i.e.

joe-bloggs@domainname.co.uk

joe_bloggs@domainname.co.uk

joe.bloggs@domainname.co.uk

The ePostman currently limits firstnames to between 3 & 30 letters.

Can I use upper case letters?

The ePostman's mail server allows upper case letters but does not distinguish these from the lower case equivalent. Therefore the variations below are valid but will be sent to the same email address

Mr.J.Bloggs@domainname.co.uk

mr.j.bloggs@domainname.co.uk

MR.J.BLOGGS@domainname.co.uk

It is not advisable to use uppercase letters in the domain name (domainname.co.uk after the @) as various email relay servers on the internet reject upper case in domain names.

The ePostman will convert all email names entered to lower case during registration. You can then choose what to use. The safest option is to use lower case throughout the email address

Can I have more first names?
You can have any number of first names as forwarding accounts.

Who are the internet naming authorities?
The .uk domains are registered by Nominet. They can be found at www.nic.uk
The .com .org & .net domains are registered by a number of bodies who must be registered by ICANN www.icann.org.
The ePostman uses registrars approved by these organisations.

Permanent

So what happens when I change ISP?
If you change ISP you will normally get an new email address from this ISP. Your old email will lapse (usually after 6 months) if you do not use the old ISP dial up connection.
You can change the forwarding address from your ePostman email address to your new email address by logging into customers.epostman.co.uk at any time. By doing this everyone who sends you emails on your ePostman email address will not notice the difference.

Will the domain name belong to me?
Your personalised domain will belong to you and will be registered in your name by the Internet Naming Authorities. As long as you keeping the annual subscriptions  this name will belong to you.

Can I move my ePostman domain name to another hosting company
This can be done at any time. As there is an amount of administration involved there is a transfer charge equivalent to one years subscription.

Private

Will my email account and registration details be kept private?

Can I collect emails on the ePostman server rather than my ISPs?
This is possible by using the FirstClass mail accounts  Your emails will then be accessible as a POP account on mail.<yourdomainname> or on the web as webmail at customer.epostman.co.uk.

Can I set up autoresponse messages?
Yes you can do this with the FirstClass mail accounts.

If one of your forwarding addresses is an address at an sms or wap gateway e.g. genie.co.uk then your email will be sent to your mobile phone as well as your normal email account.

Do I need to make any changes to my email software on my PC?
To be able to receive forwarded emails you do not need to make any changes to your existing email set up. If you want to use use the FirstClass mail accounts you may need to make some small changes. Instructions of how to do this will be sent when you create your FirstClass mail account.

Why do I need more than 1 email address?
Keeping your existing ISP email address has a number of benefits.

The ePostman will set up your new address to forward all emails to your existing ISP email address. You can start using your new ePostman email address straight away without changing your computer setup.

You should only give your ePostman private email address to those you trust not to send you unwanted emails. This is the email address you give to your family, friends and trusted business contacts. It is your Permanent, Personalised & Private email address.

Your current ISP email address is the one that you give to companies or individuals who will send you a lot of marketing mail. Once you are fed up with a lot of unwanted mail then take out a new free ISP account and start again.  Your ISP email address is your Temporary, Public email address.

If you do change your ISP account then simply use the ePostman's on-line email control panel and the ePostman will forward all your private mail to your new email address.

How much does it cost?
A detailed price list is available

How long does it take to set up?
You will receive a confirmation email with instructions of how to activate the account shortly after registration. Once payment has been received it should then take between 2 & 7 days to set up dependent on how busy the internet naming system is.
